The team is getting ready to travel soon (with just finals and for some, graduation, standing in between) and could not be more excited! We will all be arriving in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, May 24 or 25, although some of us are traveling to Morocco for an extra week before and will leave next Tuesday, May 17. We are all very busy packing, thrifting for work clothes, picking up travel prescriptions, trying not to get end-of-semester sick, and ace-ing our finals (too optimistic?).
With the support of Mohamed, our NGO that we have been working with for the past year, construction began on April 25th and has been making excellent progress since then. Mohamed makes sure that every work day is as efficient as possible, which is especially important during the rainy season (which is going on now). As of today, the slab has been poured and rebar for the columns has been placed. Take a look at the gallery below for more detailed pictures of the daily progress.
We are so excited to finally be able to meet Mohamed and the school’s administrators, teachers, and students in person, and to see the actual building we have been working on for the past year.
